Hello Harding Community,
Thank you for a wonderful Carnival! It was such a wonderful experience for our school community. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen!
October is Bullying Prevention Month. You will find more information about how we can prevent bullying here: PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. October 18th is Unity Day, where individuals wear and share orange to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Because October 18th is Harding’s Picture Day, we will UNITE and wear orange on Friday, October 20th. Of course, if your child wants to wear orange in their school picture on the 18th, they are more than welcome to do so 🙂
October is also Cyber Safety Month. October 16-20 is Digital Citizenship Week. The district has provided teachers with lessons they can teach to students to promote cyber safety and digital citizenship. Please talk to your child about ways they can be safe online. Common Sense is a great resource.
You received communication from the District regarding escalating international events. Please see this resource for families and educators who are helping children cope with the impact of terrorism. Also, you are encouraged to report any concerns regarding student safety or potential discrimination. WCCUSD Board Policy protects all students from bullying and harassment.

FAQs for Week 10:
- When will I get my volunteer badge? The WCCUSD person that manages the volunteer badges, and got status of the backlog. If you were fingerprinted in: April or May, your badge should have gone out in the mail this week (by Oct. 6); June through August, your badge should be sent by end of October, and September, you should receive your badge by end of October, this is within the normal timeframe. If you need it expedited, you can call Brandy Corona at 510-307-4531 but if you get voice mailbox that’s full, email brandy.corona@wccusd.net.
- When will Harding t-shirts be available? All Harding students will receive their tshirts at the Tigerthon on October 26 which is during Spirit Week (October 23 -27).

Just wanted to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all of you 170+ wonderful volunteers, and your families, who helped make yesterday’s Carnival an amazing success! We had almost 1,800 folks come through, and it took each of you to make it happen. Special thanks to the folks who stayed longer than planned and stepped in where they saw need. I love our Harding/El Cerrito community. We did it!

Ashbury Ave Road Safety Audit on Oct 17th, 3:15 pm at ECHS
Think our local streets could use some improvement? Come join a road safety audit of Ashbury Ave! You’ll have a chance to speak with reps from ECHS, EC City, Contra Costa Health, WCC Transportation Advisory Committee, along with other parents and students from the surrounding schools.
Agenda:
- 3:15 – Meet out front of ECHS at the flagpole and grab your worksheet
- 3:30 – we’ll split into multiple groups and walk along Ashbury noting the possible improvements that could be made to the surrounding streets
- 4:00 – re-assemble to collect everyone’s notes and discuss options with officials
Our findings will be used to generate a report for El Cerrito city council to take some action to create safer routes to school for our kids.

The Tigerthon (formerly known as the Walk-and-Roll-a-Thon) is happening on Thursday, October 26th!
Every student at Harding will receive a FREE school t-shirt the day of the Tigerthon, and will get a tiger paw stamped on the back of their shirt for each lap completed. Students will be doing as many laps around the school track as they can in 30 minutes, while music plays and they are cheered on!
Students are encouraged to ask friends and family to donate to their personal Pledgestar page.
Sponsors can pledge per lap or a flat amount.
This is a fun community event that gets the school moving together for a good cause!
All donations go to the Harding PTA, so that we can continue to provide enrichment programs at Harding, including Seele Stars, Playworks, Art Cart, library books, class field trips, classroom supplies, and so much more!
Collecting pledges is EASY: register your student at pledgestar.com/harding to get a dedicated Donation Link that they can email or share with family and friends.

Ongoing Needs
Harding is lucky to have an active parent community – everyone’s help is welcome and appreciated! Here are ways you can volunteer:
- AT LUNCH/RECESS: Sign Up HERE for for play yard and lunch recess volunteering for 2023/24. We’re asking families to sign up for 4 days/year. More info.
- IN THE GARDEN: Drop in (on the yard) Mondays 9:30 – 10:45 to help the garden coordinators with kids in the garden. Sign up here to help with Garden projects. Run a second day/week with kids in the garden (email the garden coordinators)
- IN THE CLASSROOM: Assist individual students or small groups with reading, math, or science activities – contact your student’s teacher
- FUNDRAISING: Assist with flamingo flocking, the Spring auction, the walk/roll-a-thon or read-a-thon etc.! (email the fundraising chair)
- OTHER SKILLS: Whatever else you have to offer!
Contact the Volunteer Coordinator with questions or to work on your own volunteer ideas!
Remember to get your volunteer badge either at the district office or during an upcoming Fingerprinting Party.

¡Hola comunidad de Harding!
¡Gracias por un maravilloso Carnaval! Fue una experiencia maravillosa para nuestra comunidad escolar. ¡Gracias a todos los que trabajaron tan duro para que esto sucediera!
Octubre es el Mes de la Prevención del Acoso Escolar. Encontrará más información sobre cómo podemos prevenir el acoso aquí: Centro Nacional de Prevención del Acoso de PACER. Octubre también es el Mes de la Seguridad Cibernética. Del 16 al 20 de octubre es la Semana de la Ciudadanía Digital. El distrito ha proporcionado a los maestros lecciones que pueden enseñar a los estudiantes para promover la seguridad cibernética y la ciudadanía digital. Hello Harding Community!
Thank you for a wonderful Carnival! It was such a wonderful experience for our school community. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen!
October is Bullying Prevention Month. You will find more information about how we can prevent bullying here: PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. October 18th is Unity Day, where individuals wear and share orange to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Because October 18th is Harding’s Picture Day, we will UNITE and wear orange on Friday, October 20th. Of course, if your child wants to wear orange in their school picture on the 18th, they are more than welcome to do so 🙂
October is also Cyber Safety Month. October 16-20 is Digital Citizenship Week. The district has provided teachers with lessons they can teach to students to promote cyber safety and digital citizenship. Please talk to your child about ways they can be safe online. Common Sense is a great resource.
You received communication from the District regarding escalating international events. Please see this resource for families and educators who are helping children cope with the impact of terrorism. Also, you are encouraged to report any concerns regarding student safety or potential discrimination. WCCUSD Board Policy protects all students from bullying and harassment.

- When will I get my volunteer badge? The WCCUSD person that manages the volunteer badges, and got status of the backlog. If you were fingerprinted in: April or May, your badge should have gone out in the mail this week (by Oct. 6); June through August, your badge should be sent by end of October, and September, you should receive your badge by end of October, this is within the normal timeframe. If you need it expedited, you can call Brandy Corona at 510-307-4531 but if you get voice mailbox that’s full, email brandy.corona@wccusd.net.
- When will Harding t-shirts be available? Free for all Harding students at the Tigerthon on October 26 which is during Spirit Week (October 23 -27).

The Tigerthon (formerly known as the Walk-and-Roll-a-Thon) is happening on Thursday, October 26th!
Every student at Harding will receive a FREE school t-shirt the day of the Tigerthon, and will get a tiger paw stamped on the back of their shirt for each lap completed. Students will be doing as many laps around the school track as they can in 30 minutes, while music plays and they are cheered on!
Students are encouraged to ask friends and family to donate to their personal Pledgestar page.
Sponsors can pledge per lap or a flat amount.
This is a fun community event that gets the school moving together for a good cause!
All donations go to the Harding PTA, so that we can continue to provide enrichment programs at Harding, including Seele Stars, Playworks, Art Cart, library books, class field trips, classroom supplies, and so much more!
Collecting pledges is EASY: register your student at pledgestar.com/harding to get a dedicated Donation Link that they can email or share with family and friends.
Five Little Monkeys Give Back Program November 1st – 15th
Our school’s code is HARDING2023 and when applied to online purchases made between November 1-15, 2023, Five Little Monkeys will donate 15% of the pre-tax total back to your school/organization, as long as the code is used at least 3 times or the subtotal for your organization is at least $200 during the promotional period (11/1-11/15/2023)

Ongoing Needs
- IN THE GARDEN: Drop in (on the yard) Mondays 9:30 – 10:45 (Tues of Labor Day week) to help the garden coordinators with kids in the garden. Sign up here to help with Garden projects. Run a second day/week with kids in the garden (email the garden coordinators)
- IN THE CLASSROOM: Assist individual students or small groups with reading, math, or science activities (contact your student’s teacher about classroom opportunities)
- FUNDRAISING: Assist with flamingo flocking, the Spring auction, the walk/roll-a-thon or read-a-thon etc.! or come up with your own idea/event! (email pending! for now contact the Volunteer Coordinator)
- SCHOOL WIDE EVENTS: Chaperone field trips, help with a holiday event or the Spring Concert, etc. (contact the Volunteer Coordinator)
- OTHER SKILLS NEEDED: Whatever else you have to offer!

Remember to get your volunteer badge either at the district office or during an upcoming Fingerprinting Party.

The PTA will meet on the 1st Tuesday of September, October, December, February, April and May, unless alternative information is provided.
