Hello Harding Family,
As we enter Black History Month, teachers, students, and staff are working on door displays to honor, celebrate, and uplift the contributions, discoveries, inventions, and talents of African Americans. Our goal at Harding is to not only celebrate the achievements of African Americans during Black History Month, but also to embed the full and complete stories and history of African Americans throughout the school year–all 180 days.
Here are resources to guide your conversations with your student(s) and texts that you could enjoy together:

The Coins in the Jar Contest raised $3,451.69!
Great job everyone and a special congratulations to Ms. Vasco’s 1st grade class who won the contest, collecting a whomping $362.59!

You’ve Been Flocked: A Fabulous Flamingo Fundraiser for Harding Elementary returns!
This is our third year using your generous donations to send a flock of ~20 plastic pink flamingos to the location of your choice. The birds will perch there for 48 hours before flying on to their next destination.

Dining Out Fundraiser: 2/15
Come support a Harding family-owned, local restaurant and our elementary school for our monthly dining-out Fundraiser on Thursday, February 15th at Tigon Vietnamese restaurant on San Pablo and Central, from 10AM-9PM.
Tigon will generously donate 20% of their pre-tax proceeds from your meal to our school (including their full bar).
Dine-in/ takeout/ and online ordering (pickup or delivery) are all available, but there are plenty of seats at the restaurant to eat with your fellow Harding families. https://eatattigon.com/
Play Softball with ABGSL this Spring!
Recreational softball registration is open for kids in grades K through 9. Sign up today!
ABGSL (Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League) offers a positive athletic experience for girls and gender-expansive youth to build skills, confidence, and friendships.
- All East Bay players welcome, no residency requirement
- All skill levels welcome, no experience necessary
- Financial aid is available
Grades 2–9: sign-ups are closed but you can still email in case there is room.
K–1st grades: sign up by March 1

Volunteer Opportunities
2-3 Volunteers are needed for the Harding PTA Nominating Committee!
It’s a very small time commitment (~1-2 hours total over February – April). Please contact Andrea Wildenberg at parliamentarian@hardingpta.org if you are interested in joining, or just want to learn more about what it entails.
Ongoing Needs
Harding is lucky to have an active parent community – everyone’s help is welcome and appreciated! Here are ways you can volunteer:
- AT LUNCH/RECESS: Sign Up HERE for for play yard and lunch recess volunteering for 2023/24. We’re asking families to sign up for 4 days/year. More info.
- IN THE GARDEN: Drop in (on the yard) Mondays 9:30 – 10:45 to help the garden coordinators with kids in the garden. Sign up here to help with Garden projects. Run a second day/week with kids in the garden (email the garden coordinators)
- IN THE CLASSROOM: Assist individual students or small groups with reading, math, or science activities – contact your student’s teacher
- FUNDRAISING: Assist with flamingo flocking, the Spring auction, the walk/roll-a-thon or read-a-thon etc.! (email the fundraising chair)
- OTHER SKILLS: Whatever else you have to offer!
Contact the Volunteer Coordinator with questions or to work on your own volunteer ideas!
Remember to get your volunteer badge either at the district office or during an upcoming Fingerprinting Party.

The PTA will meet on the 1st Tuesday of September, October, December, February, April and May, unless alternative information is provided.

ボランティアの機会は常に利用可能で、一緒に過ごすのが楽しいグループです。
どなたでも歓迎します。特定のスキルは必要ありません。
PTAは、9月、10月、12月、2月、4月、5月の第1火曜日に会合を開催します（別の情報が提供されない限り）。
コミュニティの意見と参加は、PTAの機能方法やすべての生徒に提供するプログラムに非常に重要です。会議に出席し、Slack、週刊Enewsletter、およびHardingpta.orgのPTA通信に接続することで、情報にアクセスし、あなたの声が届くことを確認できます！
