Hello Harding Families,
Congratulations, we made it through trimester 1! Report cards will be mailed home at the end of this week. These reports will be a reflection of your conference with the teacher(s) and should give direction to the teachers, students and their grownups on next steps for continued academic and social-emotional development. Please work towards consistency of follow through with agreements made with your conferencing team.
Our approach to teaching and learning is that all staff continually develop skills and capacity for meeting a wide variety of needs. The pandemic has pushed this approach to its limits and I appreciate that on the whole, the staff has made tremendous growth since March. Starting in December, they will push themselves in the area of math instruction with the start of the work with our Hewlett Packard grant for deeper learning. All teachers will be participating in lesson study teaching teams to develop workshop model math instruction. We have six cycles planned into April and seek to find the instructional methods that support increased student engagement and concept understanding. Teachers have a variety of research and resources like Rough Draft Thinking Can Make Math Class More Inclusive to guide the work that is as much about mindset as it is about approaches to math instruction. What we are sure of is that academic success is not about being fast and first. Additionally, learning is not about getting it done, and, if you think you’re done then you’ve just begun. What I appreciate the most about the Harding staff at this time is that they truly understand and model these ideas everyday and are not balking at developing something new in distance learning.
If you have not already done so, I hope you share your appreciation of any and all staff your family have interacted with. I am grateful for such a caring and supportive school community; thank you:) I am particularly grateful for Ted Lam, PTA president for his leadership, and what can feel like a partnership, in the work of education in such a difficult time. Thank you Ted.

Felicitaciones, ¡logramos pasar el primer trimestre! Las boletas de calificaciones se enviarán por correo a casa al final de esta semana. Estos informes son un reflejo de las conferencias con los maestros y podrán orientar a los maestros, estudiantes y adultos sobre los próximos pasos para el desarrollo académico y socioemocional. Trate de seguir los acuerdos que hizo con su equipo de conferencias.
Nuestro enfoque de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje es que todo el personal continúe desarrollando habilidades y la capacidad para satisfacer una amplia variedad de necesidades. La pandemia ha llevado este enfoque a sus límites y aprecio que el personal ha tenido un crecimiento tremendo desde marzo. A partir de diciembre, se enfocarán en el área de la instrucción de matemáticas con nuestra beca de Hewlett Packard. Todos los maestros participarán en equipos de enseñanza para desarrollar talleres de instrucción de matemática. Tenemos seis ciclos planeados hasta abril y buscamos encontrar los métodos de instrucción que apoyen una mayor participación de los estudiantes y comprensión de conceptos. Los maestros tienen una variedad de recursos como El pensamiento preliminar puede hacer que la clase de matemáticas sea más inclusiva para guiar el trabajo que tiene tanto que ver con la mentalidad como con los métodos de la instrucción de matemática. De lo que estamos seguros es que el éxito académico no se trata de ser rápido y primero. Además, aprender no se trata de la solución y, si cree que ya ha terminado, es porque recién acaba de comenzar. Lo que más aprecio del personal de Harding en este momento es que realmente comprenden y modelan estas ideas todos los días y no se resisten a desarrollar algo nuevo en el aprendizaje a distancia.
Si aún no lo ha hecho, espero que comparta su agradecimiento a todo el personal con el que su familia ha interactuado. Estoy agradecida por una comunidad escolar que es tan solidaria y bondadosa; gracias 🙂 Especialmente agradezco a Ted Lam, presidente de la PTA por su liderazgo y colaboración en el trabajo educativo en un momento tan difícil.
