Hello Harding Community,
Congratulations, we have made it to Trimester 3! As evidenced by last week’s adjusted masking protocol, change and rethinking will continue to be this year’s main theme. The staff and I continue to roll with it, re-evaluating procedures and instruction continually so we can be doing everything we feel we are able to do for student social and academic growth. For example: Cross-age class buddy activities have begun again, the yard at recess is now open for grade level classes to play together, spirit days have been added to the spring calendar, and PTA is researching engaging assembly programs to put on the schedule. Additionally, Ms. Demathieu, 6th grade math and science teacher, agreed to be the advisor for a student-requested GSA group that has started meeting monthly outside at lunchtime. The Harding GSA is for 5th and 6th grade students who want a safe space to be themselves and talk about gender and racial issues and justice. Your best source of information about everything continues to be your child’s teacher. We are still short staffed in the office and greatly appreciate all the parents who take time to help out. All of us LOVE the continued growth in the numbers of parents coming to help out at recess and certainly couldn’t function without the library volunteers. We have added a new yard supervisor, Gloria Montano. If you come to work on the yard at lunch recess times, please seek her out to say “Hi” and introduce yourself. She is the mom of two at Dover Elementary and Making Waves, bilingual, and has had a great start. In case you don’t already know, our long time yard supervisor is Adelina Herrera, also bilingual. Ask your child if they have a relationship with one or both of them, and if not, encourage them to introduce themselves and get to know them. Both women are very kind and love kids:) I have one more opening for a yard supervisor if anyone is interested in a rewarding part-time job.

Felicitaciones, llegamos al tercer trimestre! Como lo demuestra el protocolo de enmascaramiento ajustado de la semana pasada, el cambio y el replanteamiento seguirán siendo el tema principal de este año. El personal y yo continuamos avanzando, reevaluando los procedimientos y la instrucción continuamente para que podamos hacer todo lo que sentimos que podemos hacer para el crecimiento social y académico de los estudiantes. Por ejemplo: las actividades de compañeros de clase de todas las edades han comenzado nuevamente, el patio en el recreo ahora está abierto para que las clases de nivel de grado jueguen juntas, se agregaron días de espíritu al calendario de primavera y la PTA está investigando programas de asamblea atractivos para incluir en el calendario . Además, la Sra. Demathieu, maestra de matemáticas y ciencias de sexto grado, aceptó ser la asesora de un grupo de GSA solicitado por los estudiantes que comenzó a reunirse mensualmente al aire libre a la hora del almuerzo. Harding GSA es para estudiantes de 5º y 6º grado que desean un espacio seguro para ser ellos mismos y hablar sobre cuestiones de género y raza y justicia.
