This weekend the Harding Dads Club and Community Building Committee hosted a work party to prepare for the annual Harding Carnival. Thank you to all the parents who came out to help! The storage container has been refreshed, contents inventoried and we are on track for a great show at the Carnival on Sunday, October 13.
Our next work parties will be on Saturday, September 28 and Saturday, October 5. Contact Maggie Whitaker at email@example.com for more information about how you can help us prepare for the big day, or to sign up to volunteer at the Carnival!

Harding needs a volunteer who’s able to make copies that are distributed into the Wednesday folders! These provide parents and guardians with information about Harding events and other important school announcements. This volunteer position requires about an hour’s worth of time using the copy machines at Harding every Monday, except holidays and on school breaks. Please contact Thomas Harrison, PTA President, at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re able to give your time.
Last week, Teacher Helen Kang presented at the first PTA meeting of the year on the state of CA public schools and the need for more funding to improve programs and support for our children. We were once in the top 10 for per student spending in the country. Now we’re in the bottom 10. There are five nurses for 30,000 students in our district. A librarian comes to our school just once a week – volunteers cover the other days so students can borrow books.
What can we do to support our schools? Learn more about the Schools and Community First Nov 2020 ballot measure.
Enrollment is now open for the Harding After School Enrichment Program, offered through the City of El Cerrito! HASEP provides students with a variety of fun classes to choose from, including arts, music, sports, science and chess.
In-person registration will begin on Monday, August 26, at the El Cerrito Community Center at 2007 Moeser Lane.
Come one, come all to the annual Harding Ice Cream Social, Thursday August 29, 6:00 – 7:30pm!
Ice cream will be served in the MPR, and everyone is welcome to play and socialize on the yard. During this time, there will also be a PTA information meeting to learn more about how you can get involved and support our mission.
Come out and enjoy the end of summer with a cool treat, and learn more about the Harding PTA!
Volunteers needed: We are looking for 4-5 volunteers to help set up, serve ice cream, and clean up after. Please contact Amy-lynn Fischer, VP of Hospitality, at email@example.com by Aug 27 if you are able help on the night.
The Harding library is only staffed one day a week, so we rely on volunteers to keep the library running. Whether it is checking books out to students, shelving, or getting new books labeled – we need your help! Most classes also need a volunteer when they visit the library (Mon-Thurs).
If you are interested, please discuss with your child’s teacher. If the teacher would like you to help, please contact Lauren Gibson (HardingLibrary@gmail.com) so that we can keep track of volunteers and arrange training if needed. Thank you for supporting our library and reading!
We invite all Harding adult family members to join staff and teachers for our annual Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 3rd and Thursday, September 5.

One of the main strengths and gifts of living in the Bay Area and belonging to the Harding community is our multi-cultural heritage, and sharing our food is a gateway to learning about others cultures and people. It is also an important model for our children to experience and witness the celebration of our differences and normalizes differences as our shared humanity.
Please join us to celebrate our first and very own Multicultural International Potluck! Sign-up here to bring a dish and/or other supplies (picnic blanket, cutlery, plates).
