Fundraising
Let’s Show Our Teachers Some Love!
Join us all week as we celebrate the amazing teachers and support staff who make Harding Elementary such a special place to learn and grow! The PTA is organizing an espresso bar again for the staff (since they loved it so much), and coordinating with volunteers to keep their lunch lounge sprinkled with treats. But we invite you to find your own way of showing appreciation this week. Our teachers are involved in important discussions right now with the district- on our students behalf. And the support of the community helps immensely. We will continue to stand with them as the Parent Teacher Association. (And as friends, and neighbors.) Harding Teachers are part of the heart of Harding!
EVENTS…
Local artist/El Cerrito parent, Kristen Kong, will be painting our next school mural this weekend: May 10th/11th. She invites the community to come out to help and hang… so stop by Saturday! We’ll be on the Ashbury side yard by the Kinder arch wall. We’ll have sidewalk chalk for little hands. Someone could bring a speaker and fun (kid-friendly) playlist. Sit on a blanket. Sip your tea from home. Let’s be casual and bohemian cool about this…

Volunteer Opportunities
First: obtain district clearance to volunteer (instructions here)
Current needs:
- Besides ongoing needs of lunch/recess support, and classroom support via teacher and room parent requests, it’s time to make plans and think ahead to next year. WE COULD USE YOUR HELP! Public schools need all the love they can get right now. The Harding PTA is committed to the continued work of supporting our students and teachers. And it’s a rewarding, noble effort- with roles for everyone to play. Think about how you’d like to get involved, and reach out. We have so many committees, events, and projects running throughout the year. Step in where and when you can. (None of us are professional PTA-ers. We’re tired guardians who share the load.) Does your family love the ice-cream social? You could help with that. Have a favorite annual fundraising campaign? Join the team behind it. Go to the carnival every year as a tradition, or the campout? You could be a part of it!
Ongoing needs:
- Lunch recess support/presence – sign up here. Our goal is 4 days a year per family. Having extra adult presence on the yard helps students and staff!
- Fundraisers: these happen all year long! email the fundraising chair if you’d like to pitch in

Harding families –
It’s time to stand up and show our support for our amazing teachers and our school! You may have heard that school communities in WCCUSD are picketing (not striking) before and after school over the next few weeks. These gatherings are in support of our teachers, as they negotiate contracts. This picket/rally (UTR language) is part of an awareness campaign to alert the community to the issues described below. It is not a teachers strike, and will occur outside of instructional hours. We are using this opportunity to show our solidarity and as a time to engage as a community.
Why?
Right now, our teachers are fighting for safe, stable, and fully staffed schools — and for the resources they need to give our kids the education they deserve. They are advocating for smaller class sizes, better learning conditions, and fair pay to attract and retain great educators.
When we show up, we send a clear message that our whole community stands behind them — and that strong public schools are a priority for all of us.

Insights into the halls and heart of Harding…
Spotted in the halls, on the streets, in the grass: A community engaged and together! From marching in solidarity with our teachers, to hosting our neighboring schools for a poetry festival, to cozying up under the sunset for a movie… this week felt special, and full of hope, and was giving grassroots community vibes in the best way.

¡Es hora de ponernos de pie y mostrar nuestro apoyo a nuestros increíbles maestros y nuestra escuela! Es posible que haya escuchado que las comunidades escolares en WCCUSD están haciendo piquetes (no huelgas) antes y después de la escuela durante las próximas semanas. Estas reuniones son en apoyo a nuestros maestros, mientras negocian contratos. Este piquete/manifestación (lenguaje UTR) es parte de una campaña de concientización para alertar a la comunidad sobre los problemas que se describen a continuación. Cuando nos presentamos, enviamos un mensaje claro de que toda nuestra comunidad los respalda, y que las escuelas públicas sólidas son una prioridad para todos nosotros.

Reflexiones sobre los pasillos y el corazón de Harding…

先生たちに感謝の気持ちを伝えましょう！
今週は、ハーディング小学校を特別な学びと成長の場にしてくれている素晴らしい先生方やサポートスタッフの皆さんを讃える週間です。PTAでは、先生方に大好評だったエスプレッソバーを再び企画し、ランチラウンジにお菓子を用意するなど、ボランティアと連携しておもてなしを行っています。
しかし、皆さん自身の方法で感謝の気持ちを表すことも大歓迎です。現在、先生方は生徒のために学区との重要な話し合いに参加しています。地域からのサポートは非常に大きな力になります。
私たちは今後もPTAとして、そして友人や近隣住民として、先生方を応援していきます。ハーディングの先生方は、まさにハーディングの心の一部なのです。

地元のアーティストでありエルセリート在住の保護者でもあるクリステン・コンさんが、今週末5月10日・11日にハーディングの次の壁画を描いてくれます。彼女は地域の皆さんに、ぜひ気軽に立ち寄ってお手伝いや見学をしてほしいと呼びかけています。
土曜日には、アシュバリー通り側のキンダーアーチ壁のある中庭で作業を行います。小さなお子さん向けに歩道用チョークも用意します。誰かがスピーカーと子ども向けの楽しいプレイリストを持ってきてくれると嬉しいです。ブランケットの上でのんびり座って、おうちから持ってきたお茶を飲みながら、カジュアルでボヘミアンな雰囲気を一緒に楽しみましょう。

ボランティアの機会
最初にすること:
地区のボランティア承認を取得してください（手順はこちらをご覧ください）。
現在の募集:
- 昼休み・リセスのサポートや、先生やルームペアレントからの教室サポートの要望といった日々のニーズに加えて、来年度に向けた計画づくりを始める時期です。あなたの助けが必要です！
- 現在、公立学校は多くの支援を必要としています。ハーディングPTAは、今後も生徒と先生を支える活動に尽力していくことを誓っています。やりがいのある、意義深い取り組みであり、誰もが担える役割があります。ご自身がどのような形で関わりたいか、ぜひ考えてみてください。PTAでは、年間を通してさまざまな委員会、イベント、プロジェクトを運営しています。できる時に、できる形で関わっていただければ嬉しいです。
- （私たちはプロのPTAメンバーではありません。皆、日々奮闘する保護者同士で、負担を分け合っているのです。）
- たとえば、アイスクリーム・ソーシャルが好きなご家庭でしたら、その企画・運営に関わることができます。お気に入りの年次募金キャンペーンがあれば、そのチームに加わることも可能です。毎年カーニバルに家族で参加しているなら、そのイベントの一員として活躍してみませんか？
継続的な募集:
- ランチ休憩サポート/立会い: こちらから登録できます。各家庭で年間4日を目指しています。校庭に大人が増えることで、生徒やスタッフの助けになります！
- ファンドレイザー: 年間を通じて様々なイベントを行っています。参加をご希望の方はファンドレイジング担当者までメールしてください。

📣 今こそ立ち上がり、先生方と学校を応援する時です！
最近、WCCUSD（西コントラコスタ学区）内の学校コミュニティが、授業時間外にピケティング（抗議活動）を行っています。これはストライキではなく、教師たちの契約交渉をサポートするためのアクションです。
💬 なぜ今？
先生たちは今、安全で安定した教育環境、十分なスタッフ配置、そして質の高い教育を提供するためのリソースを求めて交渉中です。具体的には以下のような改善を目指しています：
- クラスの人数削減
- 学びやすい環境の確保
- 優秀な教師を引きつけ、長く勤めてもらうための適正な賃金
私たちが行動することで、「地域全体が先生たちを支えている」という強いメッセージを送ることができます！
サンフランシスコでの「学校を守ろう」ラリー
5月17日（土）12:00～14:00
Embarcadero Plaza, San Francisco
→ ベイエリア全体の教育関係者と家族が一堂に会する大規模な集会です。子どもと一緒にご参加大歓迎！

「タイガーの目」
～ハーディングの廊下と心の中の洞察～
校長室前にて発見！
廊下で、通りで、芝生の上で見かけた光景：関わり合い、つながり合うコミュニティの姿！
先生たちへの連帯を示してともに歩き、近隣の学校を迎えての詩のフェスティバルを開催し、星空の下で映画を観ながら寄り添い合う——そんな一週間は、特別で、希望に満ち、そして最良のかたちで「草の根のコミュニティ精神」が感じられるものでした。

お子さんの教室に貢献したい場合、こちらがスタート地点として最適です。

ボランティアの機会は常にあり、私たちは楽しいグループです。特別なスキルは必要ありません。どなたでも歓迎です！
PTAは毎月の第1火曜日に会議を開催しますが、変更がある場合はお知らせします。
コミュニティからの意見や関与は、PTAの活動や資金提供するプログラムにとって重要です。会議に参加し、PTAのSlack、週刊Enewsニュースレター、Hardingpta.orgに接続することで、情報を把握し、あなたの声が届くようにしましょう！
