Science Education

At Harding, science education is a strong focus of our PTA, SSC, and GATE programs.

Fun in Science (FIS)
The PTA supports this innovative partnership between Harding and the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley. FIS brings UC Berkeley students into Harding classrooms to teach science and conduct hands-on experiments.

Science Fair
Last year, to kick off our Spring Science Fair, a scientist presented a school-wide assembly explaining how to conduct an experiment. Hands on demonstrations were designed to ignite students interest in science.

To help keep students on track, handouts with project timelines, science definitions, and some ideas were given to teachers and students.

Projects were displayed during Open House and ten winners went on to compete in the District Science Fair.

Family Science and Engineering Night
The Harding Science and Engineering Night is scheduled for December 5, 2008. This year's event will be sponsored by the School Site Council (SSC) and the Gifted and Talented Education program (GATE). It gives students and their families an opportunity to do hands-on science experiments.

5th Grade State-Wide Science Test
The state of California tests all 5th grade students on their science proficiency. Students are encouraged to prepare with the 5th Grade Science Practice Test which they can take at home.
